Last night we had the finals of the freight photos volleyball tournament. We had DSV versus GW for FIGHTING for number one. It was an intense game and dsv going into the finals, with not having lost a single game. The stands where packed with fans from both sides - but especially the DSV team spirit showed big time with over 50 people cheering them on!!!
The first set started out strong with DSV showing the dominance and winning 25 to 20. Second set, GW found that orange wave that we've seen the past few years and stole it 25 to 15. This was a huge upset!!!
The atmosphere was ELECTRIC.
Third set starts and it's down to the wire extremely close. Every ball is being fought for but against predictions - GW also pulls off the win in the third set. Fourth set - all or nothing for DSV! However GW continues the orange wave. They dig deep and against the odds they take the W and they become the 2024 Champions.
Big big congrats to GW aka the Orange wave! They showed grits they showed determination and most of all they show teamwork. It all just came together in the final game! One team member was quoting saying - "This is the best we have EVER played!"
Fighting for third place. We had JAS versus CEVA on court number 2. Super friendly, relaxed game l. Both teams showing great morale, celebrating when a good ball was played, high-fiving each other ...etc... JAS took the W and secured the third place.
Happy hour was as always at T-Woods where we had the prize ceremony! A lot of good laughs, pizza and drinks, sponsored by our friends at ITG. Thank you mike Mays and Jay Cermak for coming out! Great turnout with almost 80 people helping GW celebrate in style, drinking out of the cup and chanting the night away.
1st place prize sponsored by ITG
2nd place sponsored by BWS
3rd place prize sponsored by PayCargo
This is the end of the season. It's been fantastic to see all the teams show up every week for the past 2 months, with their colleagues and friends cheering on them! The whole purpose of our tournament is to bring the freight forwarding community together in a friendly competition!
Thank you to all our sponsors this year for making the happy hours possible!
And thanks to Will Kim for organizing everything and letting Caliber sponsor and promote!
The Caliber Cup will live at GW Chicago for the next year!!!! Big Congrats again!
Second night of the playoffs we had JAS vs Bollore and Mainfreight vs GW.
Going into the playoffs, JAS is the 3rd seeded team and Bollore the 6th seeded team! In true team spirit, we even had CEVA colleagues show up to cheer for Bollore - their soon to be colleagues!
JAS continued their winning the streak, and took all 3 sets!
Court 2 we had GW as the #4 seeded versus Mainfreight #5 seeded. This was bound to be a close matchup! It did not disappoint and every ball was fought for, and every set was close. The final results from GW 3-1!
So we now have DSV - CEVA - JAS and GW in the semi-finals next week! Who will face who ... that will be drawn next Wednesday live right before kick off!!!
Happy Hour was sponsored by our friends at PayCargo and Maggie Lelutio joining in!
Good times!
First night of playoffs! Winner goes and the loser is OUT of the tournament!
Everything on the line as we had DSV - Global Transport and Logistics vs GEODIS and Rhenus Logistics vs CEVA Logistics
On court 1 the undefeated DSV made a quick and clean 3-0 sweep against Geodis. Was a good game, but DSV just seem unstoppable this year!
On court 2 we had CEVA as the 2nd seeding vs Rhenus as the 7th seeded! CEVA going into the playoffs having only lost 1 game so far! It started off as expected with CEVA winning the first 2 sets with ease, and I called T-Woods to move the pizza and cold beer up from 8 pm to 7.30 ... BUT .... then Rhenus dug deep and found their mojo! Out of nowhere they turned it ON and won the 3rd set 27-25 .... enter the 4th set, even the whole way through with Rhenus taking the 4th set 25-22 .... now we are in the 5th and FINAL set! Is Rhenus going to win this and create a huge upset???? 5th and final set starts, everyone is on their seats - DSV people and Geodis players watching the intense game unfold! CEVA ends up taking the set and game 15-10.
What a game, and the atmosphere was fantastic with everyone high fiving and cheering afterwards for having played one of the best games of the tournament so far!
Afterwards Rhenus's Team Captain Will Kim commented "This was the best game we ever played! What a comeback. At Rhenus this is the kind of teamwork and commitment we promote! Teamwork like this can make us champions in the business world as well!"
A much needed happy hour was celebrated afterwards at T-Woods, sponsored generously by our friends at BWS Logistics and Rob Bussey!
Great night! It is on like donkey kong!
Week Seven:
Last week of the regular games did not disappoint! DSV already having secured the number 1 seed last week, we had CEVA - JAS - GW all fighting for the second seed!
On Court 1 round 1 - we had CEVA vs GW aka the Orange wave. Both teams came to play and we had a close game with every point being fought for! CEVA took the W and strengthened their position.
Court 2 round 2, was JAS vs Geodis, which was a quick and swift W for JAS in 2 sets.
Court 1 round 2, we had CEVA vs Mainfreight. CEVA had zero subs, and having faced GW in the first round they met a fresh and ready Mainfreight team. The first set went to Mainfreight, second set to CEVA and now the crucial third set came down to the wire with CEVA sneaking the W.
Court 2, round 2, JAS vs Bollore was another good game with plenty of colleagues who came out to play cheering on the 2 teams! Love seeing the support. JAS took another W in 2 sets, and have now secured the 3rd seed in the tournament!
That means the regular games ended as follows .......
1. DSV
2. CEVA
3. JAS
4. Gebruder Weiss
5. Mainfreight
6. Bollore
7. Rhenus
8. Geodis
Next week we have the playoffs according to seeding - which leaves it wide open! Winner goes to the quarterfinals and the loser is out regardless of seeding!
Happy hour was at T-Woods, and generously sponsored by our friend at Freight Network Solutions! Always a fun time!
Next week it is on like donkey kong - win or .....
Week Six:
Week 6 .... THERE CAN ONLY BE ONE ....
Undefeated team after last night, as we had DSV - Global Transport and Logistics square off against CEVA Logistics !
Much anticipated matchup with both teams undefeated until last night! Definitely did not disappoint as both team went to war!!! Both team also had several colleagues (fans) in the stands cheering on the players! Great fun!
First set was pure dominance by DSV with Zach Attack in full action (see video) .... DSV only allowed CEVA 11 points. However then CEVA found the form and put on a mighty fight for every ball! In the end however .... DSV took the W and are now the ONLY undefeated team in the tournament!
On court 2 .... Gebrüder Weiss vs GEODIS , with GW clinching the win in 2 sets. Round 2 of last night was CEVA vs GW and DSV vs Geodis.
Happy sponsored by ITG and was a great time as always with networking - pizza - beer - and laughs! Thank you all!
Week Three:
Week 3 saw Bollore and Mainfreight getting their first games in! To kick it off - we had the "French Showdown" Sacre Bleu with Bollore vs Geodis on court 1. Solid and exciting game, which had Bollore take the W at the end. Court 2, DSV went up against Mainfreight who hands down had the 3 tallest players on the court! (great hiring tactic ). This was their first game of the season, and it was clear there was some "rust" to work off. DSV continued their dominance and took the W.
Second round of games, we had DSV vs Bollore - where DSV once again laid down the gauntlet and took a quick W. DSV are now 4-0 !!! Court 2, Geodis vs Mainfreight turned out to be a close game, but Mainfreight appears to have found their old form and took the W!
All teams have now played at least 2 games, and we have CEVA and DSV as the only 2 teams that are undefeated so far .... but as we all know .... never count any team out! Still a lot of games ahead!
Happy Hour was sponsored by our friends at Innovative Transport Solutions at T-Woods, and as always was a great time! Thank you for sponsoring!
Next week - we have;
Rhenus vs Bollore
Rhenus vs Mainfreight
Mainfreight vs GW
Bollore vs GW
Tournament is heating up!
Week Two:
Week 2 of 2024 Midwest Freight Forwarders Volleyball League went off with a bang!!!!! Rhenus faced off against the JAS in round 1. Rhenus had several people stuck at the office handling some hot shipments, so they were down a few players! Their Head of Ocean for the Americas @stephanie loomis was in town and came to watch, although she did not have any clothes with her, in true Rhenus spirit, she stepped up for the challenge and joined the team! #KUDOS. Good game, but JAS took the W. On court 2, DSV showed up in FULL force this year! 14 players and they were READY to play! It was obvious that getting second place last year, was still on their minds. They faced off against Geodis who, and took a quick 2-0 win.
Second round of games, we first had Rhenus vs Geodis which was a great and even game. Lots of back and forths, everyone giving it their all, and at the end Rhenus took the W!
Secondly we now had JAS vs DSV ... which was a "re-match" of the final from 2023! This is the game I believe both teams had been waiting for! The stands were packed with colleagues cheering the teams on! DSV's VIP player from last year unleashed his "Zach Attacks" right from the get-go and the game was on! The first set was close, but DSV won it. Second set JAS came back and took it! 3rd and final set, it was back and forth back and forth, and with a narrow margin DSV won the match and got a little "revenge" from the 2023 final!!! The gauntlet has been dropped for sure! Currently we have CEVA and DSV both sitting at 2-0 and JAS in 3rd place!
Next week, we have Mainfreight, Bollore, Geodis and DSV squaring off!
Thanks for everyone who came to play and cheer!
Week One:
Volleyball is BACK! We kicked it off last night with some tough games, and each team played for 2 hours.
In the first round, the defending champs took on CEVA in a heated battle, that almost went into overtime with CEVA unexpectedly clinching the W!!! 😯 On court 2, the newcomers Rhenus took on GW (aka the orange wave.) GW in great form, took the W.
Second round of games .... GW vs JAS was another intense game, going into full 3 sets - JAS finding their form from last year and taking the W! On court 2, CEVA continued their form and took the W against Rhenus. Fun evening and the competition is ON!
Happy hour afterwards was at T-Woods per tradition and sponsored by our friends at ITG Trans. Thanks to Mike Mays and Chad Fidala for coming out!
